Mersey Valley Tour – Tasmania 16th April
The first race at Tasmania junior worlds selection race was a 25km time trial, this time trial was a relatively flat stage and allowed riders to settle into their rhythm quite well. I was happy with my time trial finishing 20th. I was feeling good after the time trial and looking forward to the first road stage which was a mountain top finish after a very hilly and tough course.
The start of the race was very slow which made it hard to stay at the front. At the start of probably the biggest hill in the race the pace was very fast which broke up the bunch. The pace eased for a bit then on the second last hill the pace went up again dropping the majority of the bunch then at the bottom of the descent and the start of the finishing hill there was only ten riders in the front group including me where I finished 8th at the top.
I was very happy with this result as it was a very tough stage and I wasn’t sure how well I was climbing. The last stage was 116km long and also a very tough course, I was very disappointed with this stage as I was away at the start of the main climb with 5 other riders but I had a mechanical at the start of the climb and by the time I got back on my bike the bunch had gone past I managed to get back on at the back but by the time I had worked my way through the back riders the front riders were already way up the road. Overall I was very pleased with my riding as I managed to go top 10 in the hardest stage of the selection races.
